About
I'm a passionate builder who dove into the world of tech in the early 20's. Since then, my home lab has become my hobby – I've enjoyed the limitless opportunities to build and problem-solve. My prior career was as an entrepreneur in the construction industry, where while I enjoyed building and problem-solving, it eventually became more about scaling. I'm happy to be back in a place where the challenges are plentiful! I have a background in both software development and network administration. The goal for this site is to share useful information about things I've learned (often the hard way).
For reference, my home lab consists of:
- Proxmox PVE running on high-end consumer hardware, utilizing ZFS for storage
- Proxmox Backup Server for encrypted, deduplicated external backups
- Virtualized OPNsense router using a Chelsio T5 card, featuring:
- Caddy plugin for reverse proxy
- Bypassed ISP fibre modem, making OPNsense the primary gateway
- Multi-gateway VPN setup for WAN access
- Segregated network via VLANs and Firewall rules.
- Virtualized Fedora workstation with GPU passthrough for my Docker host, also serving as a gaming machine
- Docker services, including:
- Nextcloud for self-hosted cloud services
- Frigate for security DVR with AI-powered object detection
- Open Web UI/Ollama for self-hosted AI
- Jellyfin for media server hosting
- This website
- Virtualized Home Assistant, integrating with smart plugs via Tasmota and security cameras for domain-aware alerts
